Common Oven Problems We Fix
Oven isn’t heating properly
Often a failed bake element, weak igniter, bad relay, or thermostat/board issue. Verify voltage, ohm-check elements/igniter, and calibrate temperature.
Strange noises
Usually the convection fan, cooling fan, or a loose panel/rack. Inspect fan blades and motor bearings; tighten hardware and replace worn fans.
Oven not reaching the desired temperature
A drifting temperature sensor (RTD), miscalibrated control, or poor door seal. Compare displayed vs. actual temp with a thermometer and test the sensor resistance.
Faulty oven hinges
Worn hinges prevent a tight seal, causing heat loss and long cook times. Replace hinge arms/springs and realign the door for proper closure.
Broken oven door
Damaged glass, bent frame, or latch failure is common. De-energize, remove the door, replace the glass/latch, and re-seat the door to factory spec.
Oven light not functioning
Usually a blown bulb, bad light switch, or faulty socket. Replace the appliance-rated bulb first; test switch continuity and inspect the socket for heat damage.
Broiler not operating
Failed broil element or weak igniter/relay can be the cause. Check for 240V supply, ohm the element, and verify the control board’s broil output.
Oven won’t start self-cleaning
Door lock switch, high-temp thermostat, or control lockouts can block the cycle. Confirm door latch operation and safety thermostats before running a test clean.
Igniter issues in the oven
A weak hot-surface igniter glows but won’t open the gas valve. Measure amp draw; replace if below spec and verify flame sensor operation.
Temperature sensor not working
A bad RTD gives incorrect readings, causing under/overheating. Compare resistance to spec at room temp and replace if out of range.
Oven fan won’t turn off
Stuck relay, failed fan thermostat, or control logic fault. Check if it’s a normal cool-down cycle; if not, test the relay/thermostat and board outputs.
Smell of gas coming from the oven
Shut off gas immediately and ventilate. Possible loose fitting, delayed ignition, or leaking valve—soap-test connections and inspect the burner/ignition system before use.
